Hej venner.
Jeg har modtaget følgende brev fra udvikleren af Knoppix.
Han stiller en række spørgsmål jeg ikke kan svare på :-( - Men det kan I :-)
"Is the KDE desktop not automatically in Danish when you boot with
lang=dk? Do I maybe have to set the LANGUAGE variable to da instead of
dk, to get the desired result?"
Gunner.

Thanks for sending me the link. I can't read much of Danish, but the
pictures helped finding out what the text is about.
Is the KDE desktop not automatically in Danish when you boot with
lang=dk? Do I maybe have to set the LANGUAGE variable to da instead of
dk, to get the desired result?

It is an easy modification: You can do this with a hex editor on the ISO
image. Just search for the boot floppy options in the first 4 MB of the
CD or so, and change all occurences of lang=en to lang=dk.
Alternatively, make a boot floppy from boot-en.img, and do the changes in
the file syslinux.cfg on this floppy, then remaster the CD with this
modified bootfloppy image as el torito bootimage.
Kester Habermann <sslug@sslug> is working on a os-independent
program for patching the CD image for language and keyboard settings,
but I don't know how far he got yet.

Well, even 500kB are a lot of space if you consider that I would have to
add them for EACH language. Currently, I can only maintain a freely
downloadable german/english version. But if you like (or a danish user
groups would like to volunteer), you can fork a "special danish version"
of the CD, just like some people in Spain and Japan did, independently.
Keeping the packages up-to-date would be the biggest challenge, though.
Also, you may want to add a danish version of OpenOffice on this special
edition.
