Hi Ian,
I've had a look at your "pondering" about who has the largest
LUG.
Although the size of the LUG is utterly unimportant, and what
really matters is to promote Linux, I will claim that SSLUG
really is a LUG.
You've got some facts wrong:
1) We do not share a common language, but the similarities between
the two languages allow those of us who live close enough to
watch the others TV to understand each other.
2) Skåne is the southernmost part of Sweeden, Sjælland is the
eastern most island of Denmark, these two geographically
relatively small parts of the two countries are divided by
approx. 20 km of water. The two areas just happen to give
us access to One of the most populated areas in southern
Sweeden, as well as Copenhagen whicf is the capital of Denmark.
And by the way, we are building a bridge between uor countries,
it will stand tall and glorious within a couple of years.
When we all meet 4 times a year, it's not because of distances,
but because it is not necessary to meet more often, e-mail
is great !
3) Because of this, 80% our members are geographically located
within 100 Km ( ~ 30 Miles ) of each other. It is true though,
that we don't exclude anyone from other parts of Sweeden and
Denmark. But to insinuate that SSLUG is a conglomerate of
LUG's in Sweeden and Denmark is simply untrue. I know of 4
other LUG's in Denmark which covers the other islands, and
the part which is connected to Germany. Sweeden has even more
LUG's, but I do'nt know much about them.
We know that it is a national passtime for Americans to have
all the largest buildings, cars, women, aeroplanes and so on.
That's OK with us, if you really need to be the largest LUG,
then please do not hesitate put yourself in Guinnes book of
records. All we know, is that we've got a beautiful thing going
here, uniting Linux users and bonding with our brother people
in Sweeden. Linux unites people all over the world, don't be
shy.
BUT please correct your facts.
Apart from that, don't you think that it's time that two of the
worlds largest LUG's started to exchange useful information,
instead of arguing about who is bigger ?
Let's hear from you.
Jens Knudsen (Danish member of SSLUG).
